Temporary Work -Short Stay Specialist visa (Subclass 400)

Temporary work up to 6 months

The Temporary Work – Short Stay Specialist Visa (subclass 400) is designed for workers with highly specialised skills who are coming to Australia for short-term contracts.

Unlike other visa programs, the Australian government does not maintain a specific skills list for this visa. This means that workers with unique expertise or knowledge—which cannot reasonably be found within the Australian labour market—can be considered as highly specialised workers.

SKILLS IN DEMAND VISA (SUBCLASS 482)

Live and work in Australia with a pathway to permanent residency

TEMPORARY WORK VISA FOR SKILLED PROFESSIONALS SPONSORED BY A BUSINESS SPONSOR


The 482 visa allows Australian employers to sponsor a skilled overseas worker when they can’t find a suitable local candidate to fill the role.


This is a temporary work visa, designed to address labour shortages in key industries. To apply, the worker must be nominated and sponsored by an approved business sponsor.   In many cases, the 482 visa can also provide a pathway to permanent residency.  


This temporary work visa  includes three streams:

  • Core Skills stream   – for skilled workers in high-demand occupations 
  • Specialist Skills stream  – for highly specialised roles with limited local availability 
  • Labour agreement stream  – for positions covered under a labour agreement between an employer and the Australian Government 

TO APPLY FOR 482 VISA TO AUSTRALIA, YOU MUST

  •  📄  Have a job offer from a Business approved to sponsor overseas workers (be NOMINATED)
  •  🧾  Your occupation must be on the relevant list depending on the visa stream (see stream details below). 
  •  🎓 Hold relevant qualifications for the nominated occupation. 
  •   💼 Have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in your field. . 
  •  💰 The salary offered must meet the minimum threshold set by visa stream (see salary details below). 
  •   🗣️ Meet the English language requirement, unless exempt.
    This  means an overall IELTS score of at least 5.0, with no component below 5.0 — or equivalent scores in OET, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Cambridge C1 Advanced. 

What Is the Occupation Requirement?

  1.  Core Skills Stream: Must be on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) 
  2.  Specialist Skills Stream: Must be listed in ANZSCO Major Groups 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 

What is the Minimum Salary?

  1. Core Skills Stream:
    Minimum of AUD 73,150 per year
    (increasing to AUD 76,515 from 1 July 2025)
     
  2. Specialist Skills Stream:
    Minimum of AUD 135,000 per year
    (increasing to AUD 141,210 from 1 July 2025)

WHAT CAN YOU DO ON 482 VISA?

  • Live and work full-time in Australia for your sponsor
  •  Stay in Australia for up to 4 years (or 5 years if you hold a Hong Kong passport) 
  •  Travel freely in and out of Australia during your visa validity 
  •  Apply for permanent residency later if you meet the requirements
  • Bring your family members.

Employer nomination Scheme Visa (SUBCLASS 186)

Live and work in Australia permanently

The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186) allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia permanently. This visa is designed for workers who are nominated by an  employer and are highly needed in the country’s workforce. 


This PERMAMENT work visa  includes three streams:

  •  Direct Entry Stream  - For skilled workers in high-demand occupations who have a valid skilled assesment 
  • Temporary Residence Transition stream  – For temporary skilled visa holders (subclass 457 or 482 ) who have worked for their employer in Australia for at least 2 years in the nominated occupation for their employer in Australia within the last 3 years. 
  • Labour agreement stream  – for positions covered under a labour agreement between an employer and the Australian Government 

TO APPLY FOR 482 VISA TO AUSTRALIA, YOU MUST

  • 👶 Age:  Be under 45 years old at the time of application 
  •  💼Job Offer:  Be nominated by an Australian employer for a permanent position. 
  • 🧑‍💻Occupation:  Your occupation must be on the  Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)
  • 📝Skills Assessment:  Have a valid skills assessment for your occupation  
  •  🎓Qualifications:  Hold relevant qualifications for the nominated occupation. 
  •  💼Work Experience:  Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in your field. 
  •  🗣️ English Language Proficiency:  Meet the English language requirement (Competent English) unless exempt. This means an IELTS score of at least 6.0 overall with min 6 in each component  or equivalent scores in TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, OET, or Cambridge C1 Advanced. 

What Occupations Are Eligible for the Subclass 186 Visa?

 Currently, there are 456 occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) that are eligible for the Subclass 186 visa. These occupations span various industries, including healthcare, engineering, technology, and skilled trades.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

Direct Pathway to Permanent Residency THROUGH Points-tested stream

 The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) provides a direct pathway to permanent residency for skilled workers who do NOT  need to be sponsored by an employer, family member, or a state or territory government. This visa is ideal for qualified professionals looking to live and work anywhere in Australia. 

TO APPLY FOR 189 VISA TO AUSTRALIA, YOU MUST

✅ Hold a valid skills assessment for your nominated occupation

Permanent Residency Through State Nomination

The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) provides a direct pathway to permanent residency for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. This visa allows you to live and work in theAustralia.
